Raymond ‘KC’ Graham: It has been tough going so far for the United States, but this event could bring some joy for them as history could be created. Andre Lowe: First, congrats on your call of Van Niekerk winning the men’s 400m. Anyway, yes, this is certainly one of their strongest events and one that they have totally dominated all year. Only Tiffany Porter from Great Britain breaks the list of six Americans among the top seven hurdlers this year. We could see a sweep of medals here. KC: Yes, but they will be keeping their fingers crossed as they wouldn’t like a repeat of the men’s 400m hurdles, where the two top athletes in the World going into the Championship were not even in the final. This being an obstacle event, anything can happen. Andre: Hurdles are tricky and we know there will be incidents. Sharika Nelvis, though, seems like a true competitor, Dawn Harper-Nelson is experienced, Kendra Harrison is dangerous, and the defending champion Brianna Rollins is always a factor. Those are the key names in this event, along with Porter. KC: Harper-Nelson will be hoping for a big result as, after being seventh in Berlin, third in Daegu, and fourth in Moscow, time is running out for her. And if she does not win now, I don’t see her doing so in the future as there are too many young rising stars from her own country who are ready to pounce. Andre: I don’t see Harper-Nelson finishing in the top two spots. She may very well find herself in a scrap with the likes of Porter for bronze. KC: You could be right, but this is the venue where she won her first and only global title, being Olympic champion and we have seen several athletes at the Championship repeating their Beijing success. This could be good motivation for her. Andre: Like you have pointed out in the past, she’ll struggle with anything faster than 12.5. This final will be faster than 12.5. She can forget about gold and silver for that matter. She has a chance at the bronze, though. KC: It should, and as I have always said, any winning time under 12.40 seconds, she will not be a factor. I think the winning time here is going to be around 12.35 to 12.38 seconds. Andre: I’m liking Nelvis for the gold medal. I like her technique and her mental strength. She likes a good head-on battle and it’s going to take strong hearts to win this. I also think the defending champ, Brianna Rollins, will be ready to run in the 12.3 range and looks like she can challenge for a top-two spot. KC: Two years ago after running 12.26 seconds, I thought Rollins was going to dominate for a long time, but things have changed since and I see her fighting out for bronze with Harper-Nelson. I don’t see Nelvis losing this one. I have her winning in around 12.32, with Kendra Harrison finishing second, and the United States creating history by taking the top four spots. I also think Jamaica’s Danielle Williams will be in the final. Andre: Williams can go as fast as 12.6 if she works on certain areas and that will get her in the final for sure. Nelvis from Rollins, from Harrison – that’s your top three!
