Wolves confident deal for Chelsea striker Abraham will get all-clearby Paul Vegas10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveWolves are confident their deal for Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham is on.The Mirror says Wolves have made the England striker a prime January target and are keen on taking the 21-year-old from Stamford Bridge in a potential £18million deal.Abraham has starred for Aston Villa on loan in the Championship this season, scoring 16 goals in 20 games.Wolves officials have been working to ascertain whether Abraham would be eligible to play for the club this season, having already featured for both Villa and Chelsea. He also featured in a Premier League 2 match against Derby County, leading to questions over his eligibility. But Wolves can cite precedent, such as Liam Walsh, who played for Birmingham City, Bristol City and Everton’s U-23 side last season, but whose switch to the Robins was allowed by the FA – without help from FIFA. Leeds boss Bielsa: I will not panic buyby Ansser Sadiq10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveLeeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa is not in the mood to panic. The veteran coach believes they can get promotion with the players at his disposal.Leeds are top of the Championship by two points from Norwich City, with 26 games played. But Bielsa does admit it is tough to be without as many as seven players due to injuries and suspensions.”We are lacking players,” Bielsa is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror. “If the club can bring in players, it will be only if they are better than the players that we have.”In the next few weeks, we will have Dallas, Berardi, Phillips, Brown, Bamford and Douglas with us, so among the absences, we will have a reduction.”That’s why I clearly say that if nobody comes, we will solve the problems anyway.” TagsTransfersAbout the authorAnsser SadiqShare the loveHave your say

Casemiro was the hero of the hour for Real Madrid as they saw off Sevilla 2-0 this past weekend on an afternoon that could well prove a turning point for the struggling giants this season. The Brazil international smashed a stunning, 30-yard drive in off the underside of the bar that set Madrid on their way to a victory that moved them three points clear of fourth-placed Sevilla. And there were pivotal results elsewhere, too – not least for a resurgent Real Betis, who earned a dramatic win over Girona thanks to Sergio Canales’ 94th-minute penalty. The former Real Madrid midfielder was cold as ice as he stepped up deep into stoppage time to secure a 3-2 win that kept 7th-placed Betis within two points of Getafe in the final European qualification slot.Elsewhere, Spain international Rodrigo was the hero for Valencia, stealing in to tap home the winner and seal a 2-1 victory at Celta with just five minutes remaining at the Balaidos.Click the image below to relive the excitement of another thrilling round of action from La Liga.
Former Arsenal academy director Andries Jonker has said he would advise younger players to avoid the Gunners and the Premier League’s other sides.Several of England’s best young talents have struggled to break into senior sides in recent season and instead, moved to the continent for more first-team opportunities. Most notable in the group is Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, who failed to force his way into Pep Guardiola’s plans at Manchester City, but is now a regular at the Bundesliga club. Another example is Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, who grew so frustrated at his lack of opportunities at Old Trafford that he left in 2012, only to be bought back four years later for a then world-record fee.Jonker spent two and half years at the Emirates before joining Wolfsburg in 2017 and experienced similar problems when trying to promote his youth players at Arsenal.“When I was at Arsenal, manager Arsene Wenger sometimes called up a few youth players for a couple of games in the League Cup,” Jonker told the Mirror.“But when Arsenal had a league game a couple of days later, those boys were never in the squad. And in the next 50 games, Wenger would not pick them, either.”So I have serious doubts if young talent are making the right step if they go to England at this moment. I would advise them not to go, but to play 100 games in first-team football on the continent first.”Players such as Reiss Nelson and Donyell Malen have been forced to leave Arsenal in recent seasons in search of more first-team opportunities. The former is impressing on a season-long at Hoffenheim, while Malen moved to PSV in 2017.“Take Donyell Malen,” added Jonker. “At Arsenal, he was a big talent, but he left the club just in time. He realised he was going to end up in what I call no-man’s land.“Young players in England, who have huge talent, will only go and play in an Under-18 team, and when they are improving, they then only go the Under-23 team. So, Jadon Sancho went from Man City to Borussia Dortmund – and he is a sensation there. Reiss Nelson, of Arsenal, is choosing the same route. He is getting plenty of chances and minutes at Hoffenheim.”
Diego Godin is taking on a new adventure at Inter but admits to having received offers from Manchester City, Juventus and Manchester United in the recent past. The Uruguay international has established a reputation as one of the most reliable defenders in world football. He is now 33 years of age, but remains at the top of his game and has continued to attract interest from leading sides across Europe. Ox-rated! Dream night in Genk for Liverpool ace after injury nightmare Messi a man for all Champions League seasons – but will this really be Barcelona’s? City and United were heavily linked with moves to lure Godin away from Atletico Madrid during his time in Spain, while Juventus were eager to bolster their Serie A title-winning squad.A South American star was, however, to remain loyal to Atletico before seeing his contract in the Spanish capital expire this summer.Godin told Gazzetta dello Sport on the advances he has received: “A year ago there was Juve, Manchester United, in the past also [Man] City.“However, back then I had a contract with Atletico and I didn’t think of leaving.“This time it was different, as my contract was about to expire. I can say that no club convinced me as much as Inter.”He added on his decision to head for San Siro: “They came alive first and acted more decisively than other clubs.“They showed me the project: it’s ambitious, like me. And I liked the idea of being part of it and being able to help Inter realise it.”Godin is now readying himself for a first taste of life in Serie A, a division he believes is made for him.He said on his perception of Italian football: “That it is more difficult to play for a striker than for a defender. In theory, better for me.“But I have to quickly understand what the manager wants from me, I want to help my team-mates on and off the field.”Antonio Conte will be calling the shots at Inter in 2019-20, with Godin trading life under Diego Simeone for that working with another passionate coach in Milan.“Conte? He reminds me a lot of Simeone,” said Godin.“They live football with the same passion, they pay attention to details, they get the most out of the guys they train.“Conte, in particular, is a concrete type: he knows what he wants, he goes straight to the point and for a player this is ideal.” Check out Goal’s Premier League 2019-20 fantasy football podcast for game tips, debate and rivalries.
YouTubeWest Virginia is playing Baylor tonight in a Big 12 battle. If there were ever a game to have a running clock in the second half, this would be it.At halftime, the Mountaineers are up 41-0. The score only tells part of the ugly story though.West Virginia has outgained Baylor 435-87. That’s not a typo. The Mountaineers have passed for 302 yards in the first 30 minutes, and have 16 first downs to Baylor’s five.Baylor also has three turnovers, all three coming on interceptions from quarterback Charlie Brewer. Thirty-one of West Virginia’s 41 points came in the second quarter.Yeah, this is a beatdown. And it could be even worse, considering West Virginia missed a couple of early field goals.HALF: West Virginia is demolishing Baylor 41-0. Complete and total beat down so far in Morgantown. COLUMBUS, OH – NOVEMBER 24: Head Coach Jim Harbaugh of the Michigan Wolverines looks up at the scoreboard in the third quarter after the Ohio State Buckeyes scored at Ohio Stadium on November 24, 2018 in Columbus, Ohio. Ohio State defeated Michigan 62-39. (Photo by Jamie Sabau/Getty Images)Michigan’s athletic director has commented on the rumors linking Wolverines’ head coach Jim Harbaugh to the NFL.Earlier this week, FOX Sports 1’s Cris Carter said Harbaugh is “potentially” trying to get out of Ann Arbor, Mich., saying he could be a candidate for the Green Bay Packers job.“Watch out for Jim Harbaugh because Jim Harbaugh, potentially, is trying to get his way out of Michigan, all right? I’ve got good sources that are telling me not only Green Bay but also watch out for the Cleveland Browns,” Carter said. “He likes the quarterback situations there, and, I believe, that there is front office people in Green Bay who are enamored with Jim Harbaugh and potentially trying to get him to come to Green Bay.”Of course, there are Harbaugh-to-the-NFL rumors every offseason, and every year, they’ve been proven to be false. Will they be proven false this time around?Michigan’s athletic director said this morning that Harbaugh hasn’t said anything to him about leaving for the NFL.“Consider the source of the comment … I haven’t missed any sleep. Jim hasn’t said anything to me about it. He’s out recruiting. … From my perspective, it has no validity at all,” Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel said.Warde Manuel on WTKA this morning RE: Cris Carter claiming Harbaugh is trying to leave Michigan: ‘Consider the source of the comment … I haven’t missed any sleep. Jim hasn’t said anything to me about it. He’s out recruiting. … From my perspective, it has no validity at all.’— Nick Baumgardner (@nickbaumgardner) December 6, 2018For what it’s worth, ESPN’s Paul Finebaum also said he believes Harbaugh could leave for the NFL.“On the NFL side, there are plenty of whispers out there because of the multitude of jobs that Harbaugh would be on many people’s lists (to consider),” Finebaum said on Wednesday. “I think he would be a very good NFL coach. He’s already proven that in San Francisco. I don’t think he has anything to gain and a lot to lose at Michigan. Next year, The Game is in Ann Arbor. If he loses to Ryan Day — I’m not laughing at Ryan Day. Ryan Day hasn’t accomplished anything other than win three games. The biggest win of his career is over TCU — a lousy TCU team at that.“That’s a high-wire, high-risk opportunity for Jim Harbaugh to look even worse than he does already. So I don’t know what’s inside Jim Harbaugh’s mind. I don’t think anyone does. I’d love to do a reality series about it. But I think he would very anxiously get out of there.”For now, though, Harbaugh remains at Michigan.
LINCOLN, NE – AUGUST 31: Nebraska fans release red balloons after the Nebraska Cornhuskers score their first points of the game against the Wyoming Cowboys at Memorial Stadium on August 31, 2013 in Lincoln, Nebraska. (Photo by Eric Francis/Getty Images)The unofficial tally for the Association of Students of the University of Nebraska election is in. It is good news for those who are fans of the Huskers football team’s balloon release tradition. For home games at Memorial Stadium, the program releases balloons after Nebraska’s first touchdown of each game. The tradition has come under some fire for environmental reasons. The tradition has been the subject of both petitions to the school, as well as a recent lawsuit. None have been successful. This week, Nebraska students voted on the future of the balloon release. While the results are non-binding, the student body’s recommendations are going to be delivered to the school. The Nebraska balloon release was one of two environment-focused topics voted on by students. The majority of the students who participated in the vote, 16.4-percent of the Nebraska-Lincoln student population, voted in favor of banning plastic bags from campus, according to The Daily Nebraskan. However, the results of the balloon release question went the other way, but very narrowly.51.9-percent of Husker students voted to keep the balloon tradition at home games. The results still show a very narrow margin between sides of this debate at Nebraska, which continues to grow as environmental concerns across the country and the entire planet grow. The election saw a jump in turnout, with 16.4 percent of the student body turning out to constitute a nearly 5 percentage point increase from 2018’s 11.4 percent turnout. This year’s election also posed two environment-related questions; the first about banning plastic bags on campus and the second to gauge interest about ending the balloon release at Husker football games.A majority of voters voted yes to banning plastic bags on campus. Voters voted no to ending the balloon release, with a close decision of 51.9 percent indicating they wanted to keep the tradition. For now, expect to see balloon releases in Lincoln once again next year.
